Wellness Care for Your Pet

When it comes to your pet’s long-term health, preventing disease and illness with regularly scheduled wellness exams is the approach to take. Wellness care for your pet can not only help your pet live a longer, healthier and happier life, routine wellness exams can help to minimize the overall cost of care for your pet. The Animal Hospital of West Port St. Lucie offers and recommends regularly scheduled wellness exams, vaccinations, routine lab work, fecal checks and deworming. We also provide and recommend medication to prevent heartworm, fleas and ticks.

When you bring your pet in to the Animal Hospital of West Port St. Lucie for a regular exam, most of the needed laboratory tests that your pet will need can be taken care of at the time of the exam. By scheduling routine annual exams our veterinarians and staff will have a better chance to personally get to know your pet, assess the health of your pet, discuss any concerns and educate you on advancements in care which would benefit your pet.

Your Pet’s Wellness Exam includes the following services:

  • Examination of your pet’s oral cavity including teeth and throat.
  • Examination of your pet’s eyes and vision.
  • Examination of your pet’s ears for ear infections, allergic reactions, ear mites or other health issues.
  • Respiratory System Exam
  • Assessment of your pet’s heart
  • Inspection of your pet’s skin
  • Palpate abdomen, lymph nodes, muscles & joints
  • Testing your pet’s reflexes
  • Test to evaluate the function of internal organs, blood and other systems

Routine Blood Work

As with humans, routine blood work is important for the health of your pet as well. Complete physical exams include full blood workup and a heartworm test for your pet. By completing routine blood work, our veterinarians can identify the presence of any underlying diseases as well as get a baseline for future visits, should your pet become ill. Blood work for your pet is also necessary if we recommend a dental cleaning, removal of a skin mass or any procedure which would require the use of anesthesia.

Pets & Parasites

When owning a pet, the thought of parasites is disturbing to most owners. External parasites such as fleas and ticks are common and easy to spot, however when your pet is infected with internal parasites, the symptoms can go undetected. Internal parasites include things like tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms. While dogs and cats are at risk for internal parasites, these parasites can also be passed from your dog or cat to you and your family. With this health risk at bay, it is important to know what preventative measures you can take to prevent parasitic disease. Two ways to help prevent parasitic disease is through regular fecal checks and deworming. By using parasite preventative and by scheduling regular fecal checks and deworming with the Animal Hospital of WPSL, you, your pet and your family can be better protected from parasites.
